Sight Loss Twice as Likely for Obese People
Degenerative eye conditions are twice as likely to affect clinically obese people. There are three major causes of sight loss - age related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts. The obese have twice the risk of developing AMD or cataracts, and up to 10 times the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
