Sight Loss Twice as Likely for Obese People
Degenerative eye conditions are twice as likely to affect clinically obese people. There are three major causes of sight loss - age related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts. The obese have twice the risk of developing AMD or cataracts, and up to 10 times the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Recreational Drugs Far Less Likely to Kill You than Prescribed Drugs
Recreational (illegal) drugs including cocaine and heroin are responsible for an estimated 10,000-20,000 American deaths per year. On the other hand, it is estimated that 106,000 hospitalized patients die each year from properly prescribed drugs.
Adverse reactions from "properly" prescribed drugs are the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. Only heart disease, cancer and strokes kill more Americans than properly prescribed drugs.
Drug related "problems" kill as many as 198,815 people yearly, put 8.8 million in hospitals, and account for up to 28% of all hospital admissions.
Due to the way that deaths are recorded and statistical variations, the figures for drug related deaths could be as much as 10 times higher than reported. This means that 198,815 deaths could be as high as 1,988,150! JAMA, Newsweek.
Always keep in mind that no illness was ever caused by the lack of a drug. Treat them, all of them, as the dangers they are.
Hormone Replacement Therapy Harms Hearing
Age-related hearing loss is accelerated for those whose Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) includes estrogen and progestin, a synthetic form of progesterone. The amount of hearing loss experienced is 10-30% more, and 10 years earlier than those who did not receive HRT.
All test subject women whose HRT included progestin had inferior hearing.
Progestin related hearing loss included problems with inner ear and portions of the brain used for hearing. Women on birth control pills containing progesterone could also potentially be at risk. (See Menstruphen™, Estrolog™) Science Daily.
