In support of this, other researchers conclude: "We did not find evidence that surgical-type face masks are effective in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza transmission, either when worn by infected persons (source control) or by persons in the general community to reduce their susceptibility." https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/5/19-0994_article

Authors in the New England Journal Of Medicine conclude that masks are like a talisman giving an emotional sense of safety even though they are, in effect, useless. They may reduce the transmission of anxiety by giving a sense of "doing something," but that's about it. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp2006372

The WHO, June 5, 2020, concurs "… there is no direct evidence (from studies on COVID-19 and in healthy people in the community) on the effectiveness of universal masking of healthy people in the community to prevent infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID-19."

It may be true that masks, hand washing, and isolation are indicated in active symptomatic cases of any respiratory disease, not just C19. But to force masks on the general asymptomatic populace when a seasonal flu (which C19 is) is at its end is nonsense. (See chart below.)

This is from a study of 455 people who were negative for C19 and who were then were exposed for four to five days to asymptomatic C19 carriers. On the other hand, people who do not have C19 do not need to wear a mask around those who are asymptomatic. Since 99+% of people either do not have the virus or are asymptomatic, there is no point in the general population wearing face masks. Never mind that if a person gets the disease and becomes symptomatic, the chance of anyone other than the elderly and those with serious co-morbidities dying from it is far less than the risk of countless other dangers we face daily. Informed parents are unwilling to subject their children (who are essentially not vulnerable to C19) to the deleterious effects of the mandates imposed in government-run schools. Oh no, we're all going to die--AGAIN!

So goes a recent headline by the statistician Wm. Briggs. He is mocking the rise in "new cases" highlighted by the media. COVID-19 tracking project.

New cases, as represented by tests, are heralded by the media as if they mean a surge in symptomatic disease and death. Fear, panic, and face masks are the result.

Positive C19 test results follow right along with the above graph. They are misnamed "new cases" even though a case does not mean symptomatic disease or death. Of course, there is going to be an increase in positive tests when testing is skyrocketing into the millions daily. A test for any disease carried out at this level would show the same "new case" result.

Ignore that testing serves no purpose at this point other than fanning false fear. It should be stopped, just as Obama/Biden did during the 2009 Swine flu.

Don't think the obvious, in particular, how lethal must the disease be if you need to be tested to find out if you have it?

As for the spike in deaths in the above graph, it's not actually due to C19. Deaths from many causes have been attributed to C19. Remedies and cures, such as lockdowns, ventilators, and other medical interventions have caused many of these deaths.

Hospitals and doctors are incentivized with government payouts to treat people as if they have C19. Since medical intervention is the number one killer, the deaths it causes will also contribute to the spike.

Increased suicides and drug overdoses due to the fear and economic devastation created by the government and its media propaganda arm, also add to the spike. (This is a prediction on my part that I cannot yet document. Such data is yet impossible to find since it does not fit the plague drama the media wants to perpetuate.)

The CDC does, however, say: "Heart conditions drove spike in deaths beyond those attributed to covid-19, analysis shows". They estimate some 20 – 50 thousand more deaths, not caused by C19.

Note that the great C19 plague in England and Wales has not surpassed the flu deaths of two previous flu times. But facts don't matter. Fear and hysteria do. And England and Wales have had a good go at that.

As one writer put it, it's all about bureaucrats, not biology. For one, "essential workers," other than those in healthcare, have gone about their lives with no increase in mortality. Further proof he is correct is the fact that thousands of protestors and rioters are permitted to assemble shoulder to shoulder, loot, burn, assault, and kill without wearing facemasks. And no increase in C19 deaths has occurred in their ranks. In other words, those advancing the communist/socialist overthrow of the US are free to not wear masks. Loyal citizens not joining with the rioters and who attempt to go about normal life and business are locked down and forced to wear face masks.

Those who seek to destroy the US (traitors by definition) are tolerated, even encouraged. Those loyal to the country and its principles are subjugated and forced to signal their obedience to tyranny by wearing masks.

The mayor of Washington DC exempts city and federal workers from mask-wearing but will impose a fine of $1000 on anyone else over the age of two not wearing one. Parts of Florida are now requiring masks in homes with guests and advising masks at all times. A dedicated facemask police detail of 39 officers scour Miami. Three-quarters of Americans favor mask-wearing, believing a piece of cloth is the only way to avert being strapped into a ventilator and meeting a horrific end. Unfortunately, truth, evidence, and logic have an uphill battle against emotion and fear instigated by mainstream media propaganda.
